Ask the locals
Aussies are renowned for being very friendly. However, they are also very helpful. Whether you need directions or if you're having trouble deciding where to go. So, if you ever need help along the way, just ask a local Aussie. They are more than happy to help. And of course, they love to share a story (or three) too!
Your hosts are local experts with an abundance of information about the area to share with you. Ask them, they know their home better than anyone else. And they love to share their local knowledge with you so you can make the most of your time DownUnder.
Hiking in Australia
If you are planning to take a hike or walk without a guide, we recommend to always let somebody know what your plans are and when you expect to return. Be sure to check the weather conditions before you leave and bring plenty of water, insect repellent and a map. Wear protective gear and sunscreen. Be sure to stay on the designated tracks too.
Seasonal activities
Is it your dream to marvel at whales? Or snorkel the Great Barrier Reef? Depending on which activities you would like to do in Australia, depends on when the best travel time is. Because some of your dream activities may be only available seasonal or best experienced at a certain time of year. If you do have an activity on your bucket list, let’s sit down and have a chat about it together. We will ensure that you won’t miss out on your experience of a lifetime.
Wearing sunscreen in Australia
It is important to wear sunscreen every day in Australia and reapply throughout the day. Don’t underestimate the strength of the sun, even when it is cloudy. You don't want to risk getting sunburnt! Be sure to wear a hat and sunglasses too. And as the Aussies say ‘slip, slop and slap’!
Swimming in Australia
Australia has many lakes, creeks, rivers and beaches to swim. Please keep a lookout for any signage at the entry points to ensure swimming is safe. Or check the local government websites to be sure.
If you go swimming at the beach, always 'swim between the flags.' This is a safe area of the beach which is patrolled by lifesavers.
Drinking tap water in Australia
Tap water is generally safe to drink throughout Australia. We recommend you bring a reusable water bottle to refill throughout the day. This way you can ensure that you stay hydrated.
If you are planning to drive in a remote area, be sure to bring a large supply of water with you. Enough to last you a sufficient amount of time.
