Museums
Australia has many fascinating museums to visit. These can be especially found in Melbourne and Sydney. Melbourne has been called the 'cultural capital' of Australia. A very special museum is the Telegraph Station, just outside Alice Springs, a historic telegraph station on the Overland Telegraph Line, which served to relay messages between Adelaide and Darwin. It still looks exactly like it used to and is really a chunk of nostalgia.
Australia’s wine regions
Australia has over 60 wine regions to explore. The majority can be found in Victoria and New South Wales. Some renowned regions are the Hunter Valley, Barossa Valley, Margaret River and Yarra Valley.
Australia is the fifth largest exporter of wine in the world. The country successfully grows a range of grapes but Shiraz may be the one worth mentioning. Which is your favourite?
Barbecues in Australia
Would you like to experience an Aussie-style barbecue? Australia has ‘free’ barbecues all over the country. Relax in a shaded park and soak up the Aussie lifestyle. And keep your eye out for native wildlife including a large assortment of birds. Be sure to use the region's best locally produced products too!
Wearing sunscreen in Australia
It is important to wear sunscreen every day in Australia and reapply throughout the day. Don’t underestimate the strength of the sun, even when it is cloudy. You don't want to risk getting sunburnt! Be sure to wear a hat and sunglasses too. And as the Aussies say ‘slip, slop and slap’!
Train travel in Australia
To travel within Australia it is often faster (and cheaper) to fly. But if you have the time, travelling by train is a good way to travel for a bit of a change. You can travel by train on the Ghan from the far north, through the Outback, to the south.
You will see the landscape change from orange coloured rocks to the green surroundings of the south. Or cross the country from east to west with the Indian Pacific, exchanging cities and beaches for small villages and the void of the Nullarbor Plains.

Internet in Australia
The internet in Australia can be slow and expensive. In many rural areas, there is also no WiFi. We recommend that you buy yourself a hotspot before you go. This is the cheapest option.
When you buy a prepaid SIM card from a local provider, you can also obtain Internet access, so you can use Google Maps for navigation when travelling for instance. Your own telephone must be SIM-free for this purpose.
