If you are a foodie, the Fremantle Markets are a must-visit during your stay in Western Australia. Operating for over 100 years, the Fremantle Markets is considered to be one of the world's premier tourist markets. Award-winning, the market features an abundance of fresh local produce, buskers, unique food offerings, and much more.
Located on the corner of South Terrace and Henderson Street in Fremantle, you can visit the weekend markets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Fremantle Markets are also open on public holidays. The Victorian-era building dates back to 1897 and has over 150 stalls on offer.
The E-Shed Markets are located at Victoria Quay in Fremantle and are open 9 am - 5 pm Friday to Sunday (Also on public holidays). The only waterfront market in Western Australia has over 80 stalls to discover. Check out the International Food Court which offers a tasty variety of food. The Fremantle Village Art Market is also worth visiting.
Every Saturday (during summer), you can visit the South Beach Sunset Markets between 5 pm and 9 pm. Nestled behind the South Beach dunes, it is an ideal place to enjoy a picnic and soak up the local vibes.
On Sunday morning between 8 am and 12 pm, you can visit a market that supports the local WA farmers. Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and meet local artisans, vintage sellers and small business owners. Take advantage of the picnic area, listen to the entertainment and savour the local flavours. Located at 79 Lefroy Road, Beaconsfield, it's a great opportunity to mingle with the locals.
Are you a history buff? Take a journey back in time and visit the Fremantle Prison. Western Australia's only World Heritage Listed building offers various tours including the Behind Bars and Torchlight tour! The prison was built as convict barracks in the 19th century and was used until 1991. Today, you can discover prisoner art, and colonial artefacts and hear about the escape stories.
Absorb the eclectic vibes of the Cappucino Strip, also known as South Terrace. Here, you can find a street lined with a large assortment of cafes, restaurants and pubs. Renowned for having a strong Italian influence, it's an ideal spot to savour authentic Italian pizza, pasta and great espresso. The perfect place to enjoy alfresco dining and soak up the Freo lifestyle.
At night and during the weekends, this part of Freo is bursting with entertainment. From live music, pubs, clubs, open mic nights and much more. Home to the well-known Fremantle Markets, the northern end of the strip is where you can find over 150 stallholders.
