"Snippets from our holiday of a lifetime"

Family De Vries in New Zealand

After arriving in Auckland, we were welcomed by a drink at a nice small hotel in the centre of the city. After a long sleep, we picked up our rental car. It's orange! We drove out of the city, along a winding coastal road with beautiful views.

On our way to our bed & breakfast in Coromandel. And our room with a view!
We stayed for 3 nights at our bed & breakfast which gave us plenty of time to explore the beautiful surroundings
We visited Cathedral Cove, a 45 minute walk there and back with lots of sunshine
We also visited Hot Water Beach, where everyone was digging there own hot tub!
Moving on, we then stay at a self-catered cottage with a view of Lake Rotorua
We found a bag of old bread hanging on the door, so we could feed the local sheep!
We learnt that New Zealand gets 15% of its energy supply from geothermal fields
In the volcanic valley of Waimangu, it bubbles at 60 to 90° and continues to steam as a river
We then drove on to Ngaputahi in the Te Urewera National Park where we stayed in a tent overnight
Our Maori guide welcomed us with song and prayer
We participated in re-planting Indigenous trees in the New Zealand rainforest
A good way to spend your Saturday - on a wine biking tour!
Throughout the day, we visited 6 estates and our first tasting was at 10 am, together with some coffee!
And finally, another highlight of our trip was a special spectacle at Cape Kidnappers
