Have a close encounter with Kiwi

Stewart Island is situated 30-kilometres south of the South Island - across the Foveaux Strait and is New Zealand’s third-largest island. Travel back in time, visiting Stewart Island is like New Zealand was 50 years ago. Experience the wild beauty with dense forest, rugged coastline and sandy beaches.

The island is mostly renowned as being the only place in the world to see kiwis during the day, in the wild. Together with a local guide, you will have the opportunity to learn about Stewart Island's rich history and witness this fascinating creature in its natural habitat.

Departing Halfmoon Bay at dusk in a catamaran, you will cruise across Paterson Inlet, past Ulva Island to Little Glory Cove. Back on land, you will walk across the peninsula through coastal forest to a secluded sandy beach with a torch in hand. Here, at Ocean Beach, Southern Brown kiwi are often found searching for food. A national icon which can be seen featured throughout the country.
