Go into the depths of rural Southland

Nestled in a valley at the foot of the Garvie Mountains is a historic and remote sheep and cattle station. Just one hours’ drive from Queenstown, experience the day to day life on a high-country farm. With only two owners in 150 years, there is a deep farming and gold mining history.

The Hore family look forward to sharing their hidden oasis with you. Immerse yourself in the slow-paced farm life and get stuck into the abundance of outdoor activities on the doorstep of this accommodation. Go on a farm tour with your hosts and learn about their landscape and New Zealand country life.

The activities on offer are endless

Learn the ins and outs of fly fishing on Mataura River. Discover the various walking tracks, go horse-riding through the valley or hop on a mountain bike. You will also have access to some of the best and remote rivers for trout fishing. Or simply sit back, enjoy the stillness, the fresh country air and the views across the valley.

Four colonial farm cottages can be found on the property, originally built in the 1870s. The old stone historic homestead is the centrepiece. Today, it is used as a dining area with the purpose of bringing guests together, sharing good food and many laughs.
