Winery and Cellar doors
Margaret River is one of the world’s youngest and most exciting wine regions. Producing 15% of Australia’s wine, it is celebrated for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc and is one of the most geographically isolated wine regions in the world.
Discover Margaret River's best winery experiences
You can find over 200 wineries and cellar doors in the region. Be sure to visit Vasse Felix, the founding winery of the Margaret River region. With a little luck, your visit may even coincide with a local food festival.

Chardonnay
With an ideal grape-growing climate and exceptionally skilled winemakers, Margaret River produces some of the world’s finest Chardonnay.
Visit Leeuwin Estate to try a crisp, gently oaked Chardonnay, perhaps paired with venison or other local flavours. One of its wines was among the region’s top-rated releases in 2020, a lovely excuse to raise a glass.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine lovers travel from around the world to Margaret River for its superb Cabernet Sauvignon. Warm, dry summers create ideal ripening conditions, producing rich, elegant reds that pair beautifully with steak, local cheeses or roast lamb.
To learn more, spend time with the winemakers and locals, who are always happy to share the stories behind each glass.

The northern reaches of the Margaret River region are dotted with charming coastal towns, including Yallingup and Busselton. Set on the calm waters of Geographe Bay, Busselton is best known for its iconic jetty and easy-going seaside feel.
Follow the coastal cycle paths, pause for ocean views, and take a dip along the way.
From world-class surf breaks to an abundance of wildflowers
Yallingup is true surf country, often said to be where surfing first took hold in Western Australia in the mid-1950s. Today, it hosts a lively calendar of surf competitions, best watched from the shore with the sea breeze in your hair.
Beyond the waves, keep an eye out for dolphins and, in season, passing whales. Follow a section of the Cape to Cape Track along the rugged coastline, where wildflowers line the path and the ocean views are truly breathtaking.

Augusta
Around 200 miles south of Perth, Augusta is a charming former whaling town and one of Western Australia’s best-kept coastal secrets. There is plenty to discover here, from whale-watching trips and underground caves to the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia.
Sample local wines, tuck into fish and chips, or enjoy a refreshing swim at Flinders Bay.

Busselton
Around 130 miles west of Perth, on Western Australia’s spectacular South West coast, Busselton is a wonderful base for exploring nearby Margaret River and Dunsborough.
This region is renowned for whale watching. Between May and December, thousands of whales pass by on their annual migration, creating one of the most memorable wildlife experiences in Western Australia.
Walk the longest timber piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere
Run by a non-profit community organisation, Busselton Jetty stretches for more than a mile into the sparkling waters of Geographe Bay. Heritage-listed and beautifully preserved, it is the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.
Construction began in 1864, and today this historic landmark is one of the region’s best-loved attractions.

Dunsborough
Explore Dunsborough, a coastal town on the shores of Geographe Bay in South West Australia. Award-winning and much-loved by locals, it is a wonderful place to slow down and enjoy the coast.
